1. Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality: Indian citizens as well as international candidates from countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, and UAE can apply.
  • Educational Qualification:
    • Candidates must have completed or be in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology (B.E./B.Tech), Architecture (B.Arch), or Master’s degree in any relevant science subject.
    • Candidates who have completed degrees equivalent to B.E./B.Tech or are in their final year are also eligible.
    • There is no age limit for the GATE exam.

2. Application Process

  • GATE applications are submitted online through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS), available on the official website.
  • Candidates need to register using a valid email address, fill in their personal and academic details, upload documents (photograph, signature, category certificate, etc.), and pay the application fee.
    • Application Fee:
      • General/OBC: ₹1,800.
      • SC/ST/PwD/Female: ₹900.
      • For international candidates, the fee is US $100.
  • Candidates can choose two papers from the available GATE subjects.

3. Exam Pattern

  • Mode of Exam: Computer-Based Test (CBT).
  • Duration: 3 hours (180 minutes).

  1. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs): 1 or 2 marks each. Negative marking for incorrect answers.

  • General Aptitude (GA): 10 questions (15 marks), common to all papers.

  • Correct Answer: +1 or +2 marks depending on the question.
  • Negative Marking (only for MCQs):
    • For 1-mark questions, 1/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
    • For 2-mark questions, 2/3 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • No negative marking for NAT and MSQs.

5. Syllabus

The syllabus for GATE varies depending on the discipline/subject chosen by the candidate. The subjects include:
